Hiking trip over the Veluwe
Grand Café Hotel Kruller is the ideal location to start your hiking trip over the Veluwe. Our hotel is based in the centre of Otterlo a little Village. Otterlo is surrounded by nature reserve Planken Wambuis, Hoge Veluwe, sand drift Mosselse zand and the Ginkelse fields full of heather plants. Otterlo is the start location from a lot of hikes around the area, the routes vary from 2 to 16 km. you can hike the routes with and without GPS. We highly recommend the walking route ‘De Grote 5’ this is a short walk and perfect for children.
When you book your overnight stay with us, there will be a hiking and cycling map available for you to use and keep. The Valenbergroute
This is our all-time favourite hiking route. The 17-kilometer hike may be a tough one but there is a big chance of spotting wildlife and the view at De Valenberg makes every step worthwhile. In clear weather, the Valenberg offers a view of Radio Kootwijk, Jachtslot St. Hubertus, Otterlo and Arnhem. The route is available at our reception and at the bar.
Trekvogelpad
This is a long-distance trail from 400 kilometres. The migration bird trail is also known as the “pieterpad-overdwars” and is the longest nature trail in the Netherlands. The hike takes you from the peat meadows in the province of Noord-Holland to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and it takes you from the sand drifts in the Veluwe to the achterhoek. You walk through different bird nature areas, so do not forget your binoculars! 
Eeskooterpad wooden shoe trail
This wooden shoe trail is 15 kilometres. The hike takes you through farmland, forest, fields with heather plants and sand drifts in the rural area from Otterlo. You will see old traditions and new innovative agriculture. Put your wooden shoes on, bring your picnic goodies and you are ready to go.
