Hiking in the Veluwe

Hotel Kruller is the ideal base for hiking in the Veluwe. Our hotel is located in the village of Otterlo, which is surrounded by nature reserve Planken Wambuis, National Park the Hoge Veluwe, sand drift Mosselse Zand and the Ginkelse Hei. From Otterlo start several routes to walk ranging from 2 to 16 km and of course there are several long distance walking routes through the village of Otterlo, to walk with and without GPS. Do you want a small walk with the kids? Then we would like to tip you on The Big 5 of Otterlo.

When you come to stay with us, the Otterlo walking and cycling maps are waiting for you in our lounge. On this map are all walking and cycling routes of Otterlo and surroundings. For sure you will find a nice route to explore the area.

The Valenberg Route

As far as we are concerned, the most beautiful route! The 17 kilometer walk may be a tough hike, but the great chance of spotting wildlife and the view at the Valenberg, make all the steps taken more than worth it. In clear weather at the Valenberg you have views including Radio Kootwijk, Jachtslot St. Hubertus, Otterlo and Arnhem. the route is available at our reception and at the bar.

Trekvogelpad

A Long Distance Hike of some 400 kilometers. Also known as the “Pieterpad-Overdwars,” the Trekvogelpad is the longest nature trail in the Netherlands. The hike takes you from the North Holland peat meadows to the Utrecht Hills and from Veluwe sand drifts to the Achterhoek. You will walk through several bird nature reserves, so don’t forget your binoculars!

Eeskooterpad klompenpad

A 15-kilometer clog trail. The walk takes you through farmland and forest, across the heath and shifting sands of the Otterlo countryside. You will see old traditions and new agricultural initiatives. Clogs on, packed lunch and off you go! The Harscamperpad, also a clog trail, takes you right through the habitat of our own Scottish Highlanders.

Het Leesten

Towards Ugchelen and Hoenderloo you will find Het Leesten. Here, among other things, is an incredibly fun Forest Animal Trail of 1km for families with young children. But also your four-legged friend can come along and run free in the special off-leash area. Above all, immerse yourself in the legend of the Golden bell.

The Forester

We would like to tip you off to a walk with the forest ranger. For about 2.5 hours the forester will take you through the Otterlo woods. That the rutting season is very popular for this is well known. Yet we as Veluwe fans are convinced that all seasons have charms. During this walk, the ranger will tell you all sorts of fun facts and trivia about the Veluwe.

Het Kreelsepad

A wooden shoe trail of 14 kilometers. You walk through the old agricultural area, shifting dunes and moors. The nice thing about this hike is that dogs are allowed. However, the dogs must be kept on a leash to avoid disturbing the wildlife. And of course you can take a look at the Veluwe Nature Center.
