The Veluwe is known as one of the most beautiful cycling areas in the Netherlands. A really long bike ride should not be missed during your stay. Choose one of the great cycling routes, get on your steel steed and cycle through the woods, past fens, heaths, moraines and enjoy the beautiful nature.
In Otterlo you will find bicycle junction 49 at Hotel Kruller. Via the cycle junction you can put together your own cycling route, taking into account desired sights, electric charging points and distances. We are happy to give you some tips.
The Hoge Veluwe
Hop on one of the 1,800 known free white bicycles in National Park De Hoge Veluwe. The bikes can be found at the Marchantplein, the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Jachthuis Sint Hubertus and the various entrances. You can cycle on over 40 kilometers of cycle paths. For children there are also bicycles (without training wheels) and there are bicycles with child seats.
Bicycle hubs
Thanks to the junction network you can easily create your own route. Check in advance which way you want to cycle, consider which sights you would like to cycle past and you may even want to consider points where you can recharge your bike. Hotel Kruller is located at cycling junction 49, useful to know when planning your route.
Veluws Mooiste
During this route you will cycle through vast forests and open moorlands. The villages of Renkum and Wolfheze are the only places you will encounter during the bike ride. For the rest, this route consists of miles of natural beauty. The peace is disturbed only occasionally by the bleating of the flock of Veluwe Heath Sheep grazing on the Edese and Ginkel Heaths.
Mountain Bike Trail South Veluwe
The forests of our municipality of Ede the largest in the Netherlands and around Otterlo there is a whopping 2,461 hectares of forest. The route is a combination of 17 single tracks that offer technical cornering, fast sections with well-running bowl turns and pumptrack sections with elevation changes. Otterlo has a connection to the 36.2-kilometer track in Ede. Be sure to try Area51!
Renting bicycles during your stay
There are plenty of bikes for rent from our sporty colleagues Geerts Tweewielers and De Veluwe Specialist. They will gladly provide you with a regular bicycle or Ebike via an online reservation, but mountain bikes and cargo bikes are also among the options. Don’t forget to reserve in advance, bikes and vehicles are popular.
Veluwe Cycling Four Days
Every year in the first week of July, you are welcome in Otterlo for the Veluwe Bicycle Four-Day Walk. In 2025, it will take place from June 30 through July 4.
- Monday – National Park the Hoge Veluwe
- Tuesday – Gelderse Valley
- Wednesday – rest day, but don’t worry, we have plenty of tips
- Thursday – South West Veluwe
- Friday – North Veluwe
